Lu, the best thing to do is to take it to a local appraiser that can answer your questions accurately. There are so many variables that it would be impossible to do online. There is a market for everything. Good luck.

What about book seller's books? I have one with agents instructions insert from about 1905 and can not find any info. on these anywhere? Is there a market for them? Do you know of any sites with information or recent sales? Thank you, Lu

Lorraine, sadly very old books really don't have much of a value except to their owners unless there is some unusual thing about it. Your book can be generally purchased for less than 10.00. For an accurate appraisal take it to someone local. Good luck.

Elizabeth, I am sorry, we don't do appraisals. There are a number of factors that will contribute to the value of your book including condition, rarity, provenance, and desirability to collectors. It would be best to take it to a local appraiser for an appraisal. Good luck. :)

I have a book, Old Days and Old Ways, Copyright 1928 by Imogen Clark. It was a library book from the New Jefferson Colored School Library in Charlottesville, VA. It is a second printing. What is this book worth?

-- Contributed by: Elizabeth

Bruce it should have a copyright date printed in it. If not it is hard to say. The original was published in the very early 1800s so my guess is that your copy was published near the date on the inscription, 1916.

Hi Sherman, I am sorry we don't do appraisals, or facilitate sales here. I suggest that you take it to a local appraiser for the most accurate idea of the value. For sales, eBay is an excellent venue for finding buyers.

Hello Deborah, Unfortunately, I am not able to give appraisals. You would need to find an appraiser that specializes in antique books. There is a list at Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America, which can be found on google.

It has a embodied picture of a boy playing a flute sitting under a tree on what appears to be a log. On the inside title page it reads The Education of Henry Adams An Autobiography. It has the same picture it appears to be a seal the wording around it reads The Riverside Press Cambridge. Bottom of the page reads Boston and New York Houghton Mifflin Company. Copyright is 1918,By The Massachusetts Historical Society All rights reserved Published September 1918.It has 519 pages. If you could let me know the value of this book I would appreciate it.

I also have several books that were in the collection of Actress Kay Francis. Kay donated her estate to The Seeing Eye Foundation in Morristown, NJ. My cousin worked at the Seeing Eye at that time. Based on seniority of Seeing Eye employees they were allowed to select (or possibly purchase) only a certain number of her books. My cousin had a high seniority rating and was allowed approximately 10 books.

Each Kay Francis book is marked inside with a sticker. On the sticker is a black and white sketch of a woman. All stickers are identical. I can only guess that the sketch is of Kay Francis.

Only one of the books has an inscription inside. Someone gave her a book and wrote to Kay Francis, I have felt the thrill and the fear of the forest. I love the forest and that is why I want you to read this book. The signature is someone named Frans Blom and it's dated 1928.

The name of the book is Green Mansions - W. H. Hudson Copyright, 1916 by Alfred A. Knopp

How would I find out what books from Kay Francis collection are worth.

I have not been able to find any information on the following book:

The Poetical Works of Alfred Lord Tennyson Poet Laureate .

On the bottom of the title page it says New York, Thomas Y. Crowell & Co.

The book is dark brown and is embossed with a floral design on the cover. The cover and back cover are with the book, however, the spine is missing. The back cover is attached, however, it is deteriorated. The outside cover has separated from the inside back cover. It appears to have some type of brown batting material that was between the back cover and the embossed (outside covering). If I could hesitate a guess I would say that possibly the outside covering is leather.

The first poem in the book is "To the Queen". Under the poem is a printed date of 1851. The index states that poem is on page one. Because page one is there, as well as all pages after that, it does not appear to have any pages missing.

I do not know if very old books had a copyright printed in every book or not. If all books are marked with a copyright page, then indeed a page must be missing - the copyright page.

I am trying to determine age of this book, and fair market value of the book.

Visit some of the links above and see if you can locate an appraiser in your area. It is very difficult to give you any idea without actually seeing the book.

I have come into the possession of an 1851 copy of John Bumyan's Complete Works and was wondering the worth of it. It is in great condition, all pages intact, all pictures have a tissue cover and in the front of the book it has a copy of John Bunyan's hand written will. It is hard cover and the cover is in wonderful condition. thank you

What a great article. I love books with a passion, but I've never been a collector. After reading this, I feel like I'd have the tools and knowledge I'd need to get started.
